I worked as an apprentice to a well known local antique furniture restorer and craftsman, Bernard Jack, and from 1974 was periodically taught marquetry techniques by Andrew Oliver from Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire up to 1979.

I started my own business in 1975, making & restoring furniture using marquetry to embellish some pieces, at that time simpler styles were carried out. Having out grown the workshop and with two skilled craftsmen I moved into a larger workshops, renovated farm buildings in 1988. The present workshop located near the village of Yarnfield, Stone, Staffs.

Max has been much involved in the early fine furniture exhibitions held annually in Cheltenham. He also made “Oak in Time” for the “onetree” exhibition, ( click on “Limited Editions to order” for details).

Many articles have been written about his work as well as appearing in books on the subject and has received a certificate of excellence from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
